Hello,
I am a J2 holder and I am trying to fill out my tax refund online, using one of the online paid software.
I am working on W2 form, and my employer has withheld Social security and Medical care taxes. When I asked can I return those back from them, the answer was negative.
My date of arrival is in August 2012, I am working with legal work permit for J2 holders since October 2012.
My question is can I return my SS and Medicare taxes? When I am trying to return my state tax, a certain amount is being withheld, is this correct?

Sorry, but J-2 with work authorizations are liable for FICA (Social Security and Medicare) taxes.

So I can not return them, even if I am going back to my own country?
