I recently purchased a mobile home (1985 Conner) and bought it from a mobile home park, where the home is. I made a large down payment and have an 8 yr mortgage on it, and pay lot rent each month. The home is basically buy here/pay here to the park owners. I had 30 days to get insurance on the home. After moving in, I asked the park manager for the title or other paperwork with the VIN so I can get insurance. No company will insure it without a VIN. I was told I wouldn't need a VIN unless I wanted to use the home for collateral or move it- neither of which I could do while I owed money on it. No VIN can be found, so I asked for previous owners names. There are 2 previous families whom owned this in the past 10 yrs. I checked with the Clerk of Court using all names to include the owner of the mobile home park to see about getting a lost title. Nothing comes up under any of the names. The tongue is removed and the VIN is not on the frame either. I asked a dealer how that could be. I was told that really old mobile homes had it on the tongue only. The whole inside was remodeled and all VIN numbers are gone. I am thinking I should sue the owners at this point. According to their terms, I cannot move the home, rent it out, or leave it to my kids. When I am ready to move out- they will sell the home for me, I cannot even sell it myself. I can move it when its paid off, but moving permits require VIN. Help?
