I was married 26 yrs. We bought a house on a land contract (both names)I lived in the house 11 yrs & then got divorced. He would not leave because he has a homebased business in the house. The divorce papers said that all property was divided 50% before the divorce was final. He refused to settle the house. So 16 yrs later(last week) he called & said that he paid off the house; his lawyer wants me to sign an amendment to the divorce.? Yrs ago I went to a lawyer & he said I can't make him pay me my half of the house because I never put a time lock in the divorce. So what do I do? How can he get his name on the deed without paying me off at least? I think he is lying & not selling the house Any suggestios would be helpful but I do believe he paid off the contract. Thanks!

you really need to talk to your attorney.
A land contract may or many not have any value at the time of the divorce. Not all contracts gain value until the contract is complete.
so at most you would have only had that value of the contract at the time of the divorce. And that should have been settled at the time of the divorce not 16 years latter. When the house was finally bought 16 years latter, you would have no longer been on the contract due to the divorce ( my guess at this point) And most certainly not due 1/2 of the house at all, since you would only have that value of the contract at the time of divorce, since he has paid on the contract hisself for16 years.
I would say that even if he paid off the contract at this point you would still have nothing coming, but that is just my opinion.
