Can you be sacked for being ill then getting an operation and then having a week off with a doctors line from stress?

If you live in the USA and in a right to work state, your employer doesn't need a reason to let you go. The employer can let you go at any time for no reason.

Did you keep your employer fully informed of your condition and the need for surgery?

How long had you worked for this company and did you have any previous disciplinary issues?

Sorry to say but you have virtually zero rights due to your length of service.
If it had been over a year it would be a different matter.
