My husband has been harassed by NCO FInancial (collection company) for the last 10months. We finally received a letter from them telling us that they have passed it on to the Government of Canada so it can be collected by them with his refunds. Anyway, for the last few weeks we have received numerous phone calls telling us that they would like us to pay the debt. My question is can they continue to harrass him after the government has taken over the debt?

Please help!
Thanks

What is the debt for? I don't think there is a Government agency that will contact you to collect a debt, unless it's back taxes in which case yes, they will simply deduct it from his current tax refund (if he gets a refund).

If it is taxes and you are contesting the calculation of his 2005 taxes go to a tax specialist to re-do his 2005 return if you think there was an error.

If this has nothing to do with taxes please give more info.

The debt is for a student loan from 8years ago. We got a letter from the GOVt saying that they will hold any refunds, GST etc in order for this student loan debt to be paid off. So as far as we are concerned, is that we should no longer deal with the collection agency. We have a letter from the Govt saying that they are going to hold any refunds back.

Please let me know if u need any more info!;)
