My boyfriend was sent to jail yesterday for violating his probation. The probation officers went to his house Tuesday morning and searched his room. They found a swiss knife in one of his chest drawers. I was the one who used the swiss knife (not him) because I peeled some mangoes the night before we went to bed and carelessly didn't put it away. I was trying to explain to his PO telling him that it wasn't his fault... I was the one who used it. But they didn't (refused to listen) listen to me. The PO said they can put him back to jail for possessing a deadly weapon. My boyfriend was instructed to report to the PO's office on Friday. When he went there, they took all his belongings-- cellphone, wallet, car keys etc. and he was sent straight to jail. Is this right? Is this how the justice system works here? Isn't his rights being violated? It all happened Tuesday morning but why do the PO have to wait till Friday to put him back to jail? So we can't do anything i.e. ask for help at once because it all happened on a weekend? The PO said he has a hearing on Wednesday next week... so that means, he needs to stay in jail for 6 days before his hearing and we can't do anything about that? Shouldn't he be given a warning first for violating the first time? Shouldn't he be given a written notice first just to inform that he violated his probation and that they are sending him to jail?
