Can I replace the two (2) metal wire pre-filters that came with my Protech 84-25052-05 duct mount electronic air cleaner with traditional paper filters? The metal filters are warped and tend to lean into the ionizing cells creating a constant buzzing noise until they are repositioned.

I have tried cleaning both the pre-filters and the ionizing cells, and have checked for loose or broken ionizing wires without any positive results.

You should get the correct replacement. With a little searching you should be able to locate them. Your unit is designed with the original in mind; anything else will have different air flow and resulting pressure that will effect the operation. The engineers that designed it did it for a reason. Also, paper is not as ridged and can break apart as well, causing other problems. Hope this was helpful.

If you use paper filters they will not have electrostatic collection. That is the purpose of the metal filter. Can you put a non conductive shim or spacer in the frame?
