I used to smoke weed almost every day all day for years. I have I drug test coming up and I want to know if ill pass. I am 5'11 180lbs I have been running for about an hour an a half and lifting weights for about another half hour ever day for the past 7 days with 2 days before that of clean living with no exercise. I am drinking a lot of water every day (at least 10 pee breaks a day) and am not eating any overly fatty foods. As a result I am now down to 169 lb. my drug test is in about another week. Do I have any chance of passing?

Unlikely... but if you do pass.. run out and buy a lottery ticket while your luck holds out.

You don't say exactly when you stopped but I assume it was about 7 days ago when you started working out. So that would put the test at about 2 weeks. You're very likely to fail.

How long should I wait? And is honesty is the best policy to an employer to get more time?

So you want to tell the employer that you need to wait to take the test to give your system enough time to purge the drug use? That should work well.

I know it sounds weird, but I hate lying. OK. The test date isn't set yet. How long should a push it back?

What kind of test is it? Piss? Hair? What?

So are you going to stop smoking weed or is this just a brief intermission until you get hired ?

You can't push it back enough to matter... they will just extend the offer to someone else that doesn't have a problem getting the test done in a timely manner. IF they considered you.. they WILL have other possible candidates in mind as well they can call in a jiffy..

Employers are like that...

Its piss. And I'm stopping for good. Its one reason why I want this job to force me to be clean in times of weakness, and I know if theirs motivation behind stopping there will be no problem. I'm trying to turn my life around and become the person I once was. He gave me the job at the interview already and mentioned the test as like a passing thought once all was said and done. I told him I would like to go on vacation before I started (sense starting a new job vacation is a far way off). He said that was cool and to e mail him when I get back. (ive been on this vacation a little less then a week so far). The reason I said the test was in a week was because I'm hurting for money (just out of school) and need to start work asap. The job is for a tree care company (arborist). What do you all think, because I don't know what to do.. it seems like the harder I try to get my life together I just get stonewalled with technicalities like this. And to be honest I'm scared.
Thank you all for any help or advice

You have been abusing drugs for four years and want us to believe that in a week or two you have completely quit ?

I hope you are sincere and quit but as a prospective employer... I am not convinced until many months have passed with you being clean.

If you don't get this job and another no drug test job comes along , are you going to start smoking again ?

These aren't "technical;ities"... these are things everyone else has to deal with... Employers don't want its people under the influence of either drugs or alcohol... because they are liable (financially and legally) for any stupidity an employee might commit while on company business.

Any walls put up are walls you yourself put there, not the employers.

And its not just substance abuse issues... employers are rightfully hesitant to hire people with criminal records for the same reasons. Get busted shoplifting... expect to have a problem getting a job in retail... steal money expect to have a problem to get a job where you handle money. Act like a fool on the road and rack up tickets or accidents.. expect to have a problem getting a job where you drive a vehicle on company business... even if its your own.

So... first thing to do is own up to your own bad choices... rather than calling them Technicalities... or being stonewalled... those are both techniques to try to shift the blame for consequences of you own choices in life.

The good news is you can clean your act up and put it behind you a lot faster than you will with an arrest record. But for the short term you are going to have to deal with the fallout of your choices. And you are going to have to make the ongoing choice to keep your act clean long term after you do. Nobody much cares what you used 20 years ago... but they do care what you used 20 days ago, or 20 hours ago..

I am owning up to it now. And I'm not shifting it. I know it was all my fault. It was just that I felt there was no mercy for someone trying to help themselves. But I understand and I'm done for good! This has been a long time coming. Thanks for your time smoothy and everyone else. But one of my question still has not bee answered. How long do I need to pass the test. Because I can wait an additional week before doing the test . 3 weeks total. With the working out daily. Oh and I'm now down to 165lb now. Hay if nothing else m getting back into shape lol.
Thank you all once again.. I'm n your debt

It's impossible to say exactly how long. I have read many things about this and opinions all seem to vary. The problem is that you used for so long so now it becomes difficult to tell. You will just have to at some time take a chance and see what happens.

That's something nobody can definitively answer for you... there are too many variables involved. Certain types of tests are going to turn it up many months after you stop.

And good luck with keeping yourself clean... you'll feel better and be better off in more ways than one with a clean body, clean mind and a clean spirit.

I hope you're clean and stay clean. It can happen, although it USUALLY takes some type of intervention.

Everybody makes mistakes. Keep your fingers crossed, take a deep breath and take the test. If you are drinking a lot of water to water down your urine, that will show - by the way.

But good luck!

Hello m:

DON'T snitch on yourself.. If you can stall it for another two weeks, I think you've got a shot at passing.

There are drug tests that can detect THC smoked 6 months or more, and there are tests that can only detect up to a few days after. There are hairsample tests that can find out about every drug ever done. The issue really is how serious you are about your goals. If this is for a special kind of job. You must own up to your past actions and deal with the consequences for those actions. If you are a upfront stand up type of individual you will know what to do when the moment of truth comes your way.

Doing drugs for years is not something that goes away the first day or few weeks you decide to stop. Your body adapts to the drugs you have been doing, and must begin slowly going back into homeostasis range without the drugs no longer being introduced into your system. It took you awhile to get this way, and will take awhile to get back. Make sure you got a plan to achevie your goals, and aren't being impatient or impulsive. Without a plan for your goals, you are only planning to fail. Don't give up on obtaining the things in life that will bring you happiness and innger growth. It would sure be a fun ride to smoke pot all day long, but at the end of that day is it going to give you truly what you want out of life, or just an imaginary world that is truly denying you of the things you know you can obtain. We become what it is we think about all day long. If getting high is soething thought about then ultimately you will be high, and if its thought of becoming great in the dreams and goals you always with to obtain. Well then you must setup a path for yourself to only think those wonderful; thoughts and begin working on obtaining your goals and dreams. Drugs then will be something you clearly won't want or need because you will be satisfying your inner well being with your own truths. Go For it!! Get off the goat, and get back on the Stallion and ride yourself into what it is that you can say will make you a success.

Thank you all for your advice and support It means more then you can ever know. Funny how sometimes you can trust no one with this kind of stuff, but you can be moved by total strangers on the net. I will stay clean I know I can do it! Because even now I feel better then ever. I know its going to be a long road with lots of bumps along the way, but hay I used to run cross county and marathons. The long tough ones are the best and the most satisfying to finish!

It is nice to see a person who owns up to their mistakes. Most people who ask for advice on here tends to put the blame elsewhere.

It is also good to see that you are trying. You mentioned you just finished school... Good for you! Just keep making good decisions and I am sure things will work out for you in the future.

I agree with Excon. Wait it out for another two weeks, then see.

Best of luck.
