I just bought a new dishwasher and was going to install it myself. The drain line is a 3/8" copper pipe(1/2"o.d.)that runs on the floor then goes up and down the wall(I think to create a air gap)and into a pvc pipe(1 1/4"or 1 1/2"D) in the basement wall. In my experience the drain hose is usually connected above the p trap at the sink. It seems that all dishwasher drain hoses excepts a min. pipe size of 5/8". So the hose diameter is to big for my 1/2'" o.d. copper pipe. Not sure if I should cap the copper pipe and hook it up conventionaly or find some hose that will work for me. Also concerned that if there was a cesspool backup would it come up the pvc pipe and flood the basement.

Thanks for any advice you may have,
Tom

I just installed a Bosch today and it had a combo 5/8 or 1/2 connector. Most DW connectors are both, you can use the 5/8 or cut the end to get to the 1/2. Be simpler if you connect to the tailpiece, just keep at least 20" height on the air gap.
