I was copying files onto a usb when it decided to not respond so I shut the window down and the all of a sudden all my desktop files (except the default ones) were gone. Problem is that a number of those files that went missing had been save directly on to the desktop! Does anyone know how I could get them back?

You may a corrupted profile, that does mena all your files are lost. I went through this about 8 months ago and successfully rebuilt a new profile with all the stuff from my old profile.
