Hello I have a quick question regarding releasing of bank levy. Recently, my bank account that I have jointly with my husband got hit with a bank levy for unpaid child support for children I had in a previous marriage. I do not work, I am a full time student so my only income is financial aid and student loans. My husband who is also a full time student has the only actual wage income. The bank is holding the levy until the direct deposits from his paycheck add up to the full amount. We had no problems with there being a bank levy at this time. Actually it was a way for the old debt $2500 to be taken care of. However, when we filed taxes, we got notice that they took the $2500 out as a offset. Again that would be fine. The problem is that the Levy is still in place with the bank account and when the remainder of our taxes gets deposited boom its going to pull the full levy amount out. SO basically paying off $5000 instead of $2500. Is there anything we can do to keep from getting hit twice for the one amount? We are working on a limited time frame as IRS just sent us notice of bank deposit set for February 26th. Who would I contact to release the bank levy or to at least hold it up until all of the offset has been place on record completely?
