Hi,
I am in F1 visa (student ) and I just filed my tax return for 2012 in turbotax. I filed 1098 T and W 2 form and my refund is already accepted . But I just got my 1042-s form today from my university. Now what I need to do ? Do I need to file it again?
In that case do I just need to file the 1042-s or both 1042-s and w-2(again)? Do I need to pay penalty?
Please help me
Thanks

To begin with, you file incorrectly!

As an international student on the F-1 visa, you are a non-resident alien and should have filed Form 1040NR-EZ with Form 8843. By filing on-line, you probably filed Form 1040EZ.

You will need to amend your 2012 return, adding the income from the Form 1042-S and attaching an properly-prepared Form 1040NR-EZ to the Form 1040X. Then you can submit the Form 1042-S with the amendment.

If you believe that you will need professional help with this amendment, this IS what I do. Please double-click on my name (Atlanta Tax Expert) above to access my profile. You will find my email address in the signature portion of the profile (scroll down to the BOTTOM of the page).
