This puzzle is driving me mad.

Movie, probably after 2004. Guy meets girl on cruise ship. Ship goes through rough seas, has to stop off in Hawaii. Guy takes girl to meet his old aunt/grand mother, who lives high up on the island.

The girl and aunt get on very well and the aunt gives the girl a memento - could be scarf.

They have to get back to the ship when it sound three blasts on the whistle, but they stay longer. I think the aunt dies and leaves the house to the guy.

It is not 'The Descendants'. I think it was filmed on location in Tahiti, even though the action was supposed to take place on Hawaii.

I know this isn't the right answer, but it sounds so close to 1994's " Love Affair" Which is a re-make of 1939's movie of the same name. "An Affair to Remember" also has the same storyline.
I hope someone knows the correct answer, as I would like to see the movie you are describing myself.

Yes, it's An Affair to Remember with Cary Grant and Deborah Kerr. Excellent classic. It's a shawl that the grandmother leaves her.
