I recently had stapler hemorrhoidectomy 8 days back. Before the surgery I used to have regular soft stools in the morning with no straining on anus while evacuation. Only problem was it use to take time to empty the bowel. Whenever I used to take laxative in fact it used to put pressure on my anus.

After the surgery I am advised to take laxative. However its almost 8 days and pain continues. I have to pass stools 3 -5 times a day and every time it puts severe strain on my anus. I think the pressure is induced because of the laxative as I used to face same problem before surgery. I think because of this pressure the pain is continuing. As it is not giving time to heal. Am I right? What is the solution?

Should I stop taking laxative? It will reduce the no. of times that I require to go to pass the stools but will it pain more as stools may not be as soft as while taking laxative?

Please contact your surgeon in regards to your question. He/she knows your medical history and the exact procedure performed. Since we don't know that information any information given to you via strangers on the internet could be dangerous to your health.

Could you be taking too many laxatives? I see no reason to go 3 - 5 X a day.
I take a laxative about 3 times a year and found one that is gentle. Not that horrible uncontrollable urge that most laxatives have. Take to your druggist. Sometimes they are more helpful about brands than doctors are.
There are stool softeners too, that you can take for generally softer stools.

Just want to add a small point. Don't force a bowel movement. It will put strain on your colon and sphincters. Just relax and it will come in time. It sounds like you're forcing things and with a recently repaired hemorrhoid than you're begging for troubles Just let things happen naturally.
