Nope you can't find alcohol on the hair... a regular alcohol urine test can detect alcohol for up to 24 hours tops after last drink. There is another urine test EtG, it can detect alcohol up to 80 after consumption. It just depends on which test they run.

Tessy's answer is incorrect. Hair testing is by far the best way to tell if a person has consumed a lot of alcohol over time.

For drivers license reinstatement what type of drug/alcohol testing do Michigan courts require?

Yes you can detect alcohol consuption in hair. When you drink alcohol it metabilises in your body and makes something called EtG, the more you drink the more EtG is made this thengrows into the hair folicle as a permanent marker. Usually 1.5 inches of hair nearest the scalp is taken and that would show 90 days of results. They add up the EtG levels and markers and can give a result in numbers of grams of alcohol over the 90 days. 8g = 1 unit of alcohol, there are 10 units in 1 bottle of wine. Heavy usage is reported if the average come back over 60g a day. Hope that helps...

How widespread are these tests being used? Are they in regular behavioral health centers now?

That is a lot of alcohol... what if you drink once every 5 to 8 weeks... about 3 to "7" drinks, at the most?

Hair alcohol testing is usually limited to a 90 day period, based on 1-1/2" of hair sample. Such tests use an arbitrary cumulative standard of metabolites (FAEE, EtG) to rank consumption. (see List (http://www.consumergenetics.com/CGorder.php?pid=15))

Infrequent consumption should not be reported as it would be under the limit. (see Society of Hair Testing (http://www.soht.org/pdf/Consensus_EtG_2009.pdf))

Depends on the drugs. Usually they run a battery of test if they're testing for alcohol. If they're just testing for alcohol then probably not.
