Hello Doctors, I am 26 years old. I went for a Papsmear last week at my GP and the results came back. I was told that I have abnormal cells and have mild cervical dysplasia. I also was told that I have HPV but I do not know what type it is. I was told to wait 6 months to go for another test which I think is ridiculous when things could change in 6 months. I have not had any other tests done other than the Papsmear. Should I go for a second opinion at a Gynaecologist in the next few days? In addition to this, last month I went in for a urine test as I was experiencing extreme pain when urinating as well in the abdomen area. I could not walk as it was so painful. The doctor did a test and the result showed that my leukocytes were on the purple level (the worst level), there was blood in my urine and the result was not good at all. I went onto antibiotics but seem to have a colour change in my urine again. Could there be a link between the urine test (leukocytes), cervical dysplasia and HPV? i.e. Could the high level of leukocytes show that my body is fighting against the abnormal cells in the cervix?
Thank You!

Your GP knew you were on antibiotics when you had the PAP smear?
I hope so.
No, it is not ridiculous to wait 6 months. It is common to have slight abnormalities on one smear that are not significant, and I would have waited.
It's not a bad idea to have a GYN in addition to a GP, as long as you report what is happening with the other doctor. I would concentrate for now on the infection. You say 'the doctor' but don't say if that was your GP or an ER or what. Call your GP and perhaps you will be referred to a Urologist.
Some GPs are all around excellent in many specialties. Some do a lot of referrals. You are the only one who can make an informed decision about that.

Thank you for your reply. I really appreciate you taking your time.
I was not on antibiotics at the time of the pap smear test. I had the antibiotics 1 month before. The urine test was done by my GP as well as the pap smear test. There is only 1 doctor involved in this at the moment.
The reason why I would like a second opinon/ to have the colposcopy done is because I have done extensive reading on cervical dysplasia. I have come across women who have had the colposcopy done with CIN I and results less severe. It is not something I want unless its necessary! But I do want to ensure that everything is okay and not getting worse (I'm sure that everything is great.)
I did forget to include some important information in my last post. After the severe result of my urine test she decided to do a pregnancy test (dipstick and blood). The dipstick came up positive and the blood test result showed it had less than 10 miu. I had this result even even though I take my pill regularly. My GP did another dipstick test 3 days later and it came up negative. I'm not pregnant.
The result of the pregnancy test, the severe urine test (high leukocyte count) as well as the cervical dysplasia result has really worried me. I still go to the restroom to urinate at night. But I've got used to it, I suppose.
Please advise me if I should have a second opinion, is it a cause for concern with all these results. Or should I just wait 6 months?
