I installed a fuel shut-off valve on my 526SWE Cub Cadet Snowblower yesterday after the storm. It's black plastic with a red valve, seems to be just the right size, though there was no info as to whether it was designed for this machine (I think it's odd that Cub Cadet does not sell these with fuel shut-offs, given the trouble with ethanol fuel and carburetors)
After installing it and opening the valve, the machine will only run at a fast idle when the throttle is wide open. Could it be a defective valve, or the wrong one for this installation ?

Thanks !

Hi,
I would think your problem is elsewhere. Check the throttle linkage. It sounds coincidental to me.
Peace,

Thanks Clarke,

I will check the linkage to be sure I didn't somehow affect the linkage when I took the cover plate off.
I stopped by the shop where I bought the machine and talked to the mechanic. He said that they install these all the time and there shouldn't be an issue. I bought a new valve from him, and although it looks identical to the one I installed, this time it's a Briggs and Stratton factory part. I'll change it out this afternoon and see if it corrects the problem.

Clarke, you pretty much nailed it !
I removed the front cover and changed out the old valve for the new valve, wasn't the valve at all but I liked the B&S valve better. I used screw-type hose clamps the first time (the second one came with snap clips), and noticed that the back of the hose clamp was interferring with the governor linkage from the throttle assembly. Not by a lot, but enough to keep it from moving correctly.
Now it runs just fine!
