View Full Version : I accidentally used a little bit of fabric softener my All Blacks jersey?

I was washing my New Zealand All Blacks jersey, which is 100% polyester. I wash all of my jersey's by hand, in a clean sink as I don't trust the washing machine (it always eats polyester and tears it up). I accidentally put fabric softener in as I thought it was detergent. The jersey appears to be fine, I've worn it twice since. However, I've read online that you should NEVER USE fabric softener on the jersey. I'm a bit startled now, because as stupid as it sounds, it's my favourite jersey. I also purchased it with my own money from my first paycheck, so it also has sentimental value to it. Is the fabric softener supposed to ruin the jersey, or just cause wrinkles? There's no screen printed numbers or anything on the back, it's just blank. I also wash it inside out.

Cheers!

Thanks mate, you reckon? That's good to hear. I'm just a bit OCD when it comes to these kind of things. I online from several different sources stating that the fabric softener disables the jersey's ability to wick away sweat. Beings I don't actually play in the jersey (it might rip if I did), I reckon you're right. But it still smells like the softener, maybe more than it should? If just a bit of the softener was left over after it was rinsed, do you reckon it'll still be fine? It won't break down the fabric will it?

Sorry for the stupid questions mate, I'm just a bit paranoid. :)
