My wife has moved from California to Tennessee. (she is custodial parent) I'm trying to get a modification on what I pay due to I make less than half if what I was making. Well, California says they can not do a modification due to she does not live there anymore. They told me to go through my state of Arkansas, to open a new case. I called them and they say because she doesn't live here I can't do anything. I have looked at Tennessee's child support site and they say only custodial parent can open a case there. WHAT CAN I DO. I make 2300 a month and she's getting 900 of it. Why in the world would she open a case anywhere else? If she did she'd get 350ish dollars. I am at my witts end. Any and all help would be appreciated.

Modification of what? A child support order entered by a California court? You would hire a California attorney to get the order modified. What the State of California appears to be telling you is that they won't do this free of charge because the child no longer lives there.

You say "wife", not "ex-wife". Are you separated?
