I've filed 1040ez for as long as I can remember. This year(2012) I have come across a problem. I printed out a form from the IRS site. Line 5 poses a problem
When I try to e-file. On the form, and in the instructions (page 10), the show that
I can subtract $9750 if 'single'. But when I fill out e-file forms (h&r block, taxact.com and etax.com) the allowance for this is only $5950. This results in
A $100 difference in the amount of my refund. What is the reason for this discrepency? Please explain. Thanks to all for your time concerning this matter.

Gail,

The Form 1040EZ COMBINES the standard deduction of $5,950 and the personal exemption of $3,800 to equal $9,750.

The tax software does not.
