KAIC stands for 1000 Amps Interrupting Current.

All electrical distribution equipment will carry this value and rating.

During design of a system, a short circuit corrdination study must be performed to determine what rating a system should be to withstand a short circuit.

If, for example, a circuit breaker is only rated for 10 KAIC, and is installed in a system with available 65,000 amps during a short circuit event, the 10 KAIC rated breaker can fail in a destructive manner, in simple terms, blow up and eject shrapnel, and kill someone.

Why do you ask? What is your position?
