My menstrual cycle was due 1/21/13, I have an extremely regular 30 day cycle and have never gone past 32 days [only once went to 32 days]. My cycle never started but I noticed a slight loss of concentration and breast tenderness on day 33. These are not normal premenstrual symptoms for me, my only memory of my breasts hurting were early in pregnancy 6years ago with my son. Due to work I would have been unable to get a hpt until later in the week. On day 36 I had some brown spotting for 2-3 hours [also not normal for me] followed by heavy dark red bleeding [1 pad every 3 hours] and what looked like pea to nickel sized pieces of tissue, they were slightly firm and did not "squish" apart like clots would. This continued along with strong waves of pain in my abdomen and lower back for about 24 hours, since then the bleeding has subsided to minimal and is now only pieces of "tissue" covered in brown blood coming out onto my pad. All of this was a total of 48 hours whereas my normal period lasts 6 days.

My Dr.'s office offered little help saying "a pregnancy tests would likely now show negative if that was infact a miscarriage, although it strongly sounds like one" and they want to see me next week to check for any complications, and immedietely should I develop a fever. Should my dr.'s office have done more? And does this indeed seem like a miscarriage?

I think what they said was right. There's no way to know for sure, but it does sound like one. There are no good statistics on early miscarriage, but it is believed that they are VERY common. So there you have it.
Do more? No. If you get a fever, but that's not likely.
