I own a home in Sumner Co.Tenessee and let my Brother and his 2 kids move in with me in Dec. 2010 because of loss of work for him and now he is trying to get disability for himself. He was dishonest with me from the beginning and a lot of unpleasant instances has happened, and when I asked him to move out he refused and the police dept. told me that I had to give him 30 days notice. He has no income. 30 days is a long time and a lot of things could happen to my property within that time and there is nothing I can do to prevent it because I am at work everyday. Are there any laws protecting me or any loopholes to protect me? Also what kind of programs are there that would get him and his kids into a home with no income and his disability up in the air?

You allowed him to move in. He established residency, which means he has to be treated like a tenant. This means giving him 30 days notice to vacate before you can obtain an eviction order.

If he becomes violent, you can try to get a restraining order. If he cause damage you can sue him. You should have had him sign an agreement to pay a nominal rent so you could use a shorter pay or quit notice.
