Recently I find my Elantra hesitates a lot under acceleration. I will be popping along at 100kmh with no problems, and if I decide to pass, the engine revs up, but it takes a second or 2 before the car actually picks up speed. This is a very high mileage vehicle, 270,000km, so I was wondering if maybe the fuel filter, which has never been replaced, could be causing that.

Thanks!

Thoughts:

. Replace the platinum spark plugs, if they have not been changed in 90,000km.

. Clean the throttle plate and throttle body with throttle body spray cleaner. Afterwards, clean the air box and replace the air filter, if it hasn't been changed in 45,000km.

. Add a bottle of Shell Regane or Chevron Techron to the gas, in order to clean the fuel injectors. Your car does not have a fuel filter.

. Don't overlook servicing the transmission, which can hold back performance, too. Drop and clean the pan and magnet, replace the filter, and refill with ATF. If you have an external transmission filter, also replace it.
