I have a mirena IUD and in April and December of last year I had some bad cramping. At my annual pap in June they did an ultrasound and found some small cysts but were not concerned. The one in December was so bad that I went to the doc and they found that the cysts on my right ovary and left. I went back for my 6 week f/u yesterday and did another transvaginal ultrasound. They found the cysts on my right ovary went away but the one on my left is measuring 6cm. The dr said it was fluid filled with round borders so no abnormality. She stated she didn't want to jump the gun so she advised I keep the mirena in (I'm OK having if removed if need be) and to see her in 10 more weeks for another vaginal ultrasound. She didn't think the mirena was to blame but I don't have a history of cysts until I had the mirena inserted (its been in for 2 years). My question is - should I have it removed? Is 6 cm really big and a cause for concern? Should I have been put on birth control? What is the likelihood for surgery? When the dr told me this I panicked and now have questions and of course they're closed on Fridays. Im also noticing I have an abnormal scent when I wipe after urinating that just started last night after the appointment. Any help would be most appreciated in understanding this. I'm so scared I've not had children and I'm 30 so my fertility is still veryimportant to me. Thank you!
