I was caught for shoplifting at Walmart for $73. Cops came and they arrested and fingerprinted me. They gave a date to appear on court. The store wants to drop charges. He assured me that he will drop the charges on the court date.I am on a H4 visa. I wanted to know my chances and the approx fees the attorneys will charge for it.

You have asked "what if" questions. The only person who knows if the store will drop the charges is the store's representative. Why are they dropping the charges? Is it in exchange for you paying some sort of retribution?

Attorney fees vary - I'd call various lawyers and ask.

Yes, the arrest could affect your immigration status. How the charges are handled will matter - dismissed, a plea bargain, something else. You are in the US as a dependent, correct? Child or spouse?

Walmart in my area does not drop charges. In fact, Walmart is very hard on shoplifters. I'm surprised that they have offered to drop charges against you, particularly if you are "here" on a visa.

Don't believe the previous answer, its from some kind of idiot law-and-order fanatic or a badly educated cop in training! You will most likely have nothing happen to your status. The Internet is a really bad place to get legal info. Go to the free Legal Services in your area and ask your questions, and if they think you need a real lawyer ask them to put you in touch with one. You will be okay, just don't make stealing a habit, its too much of a hassle.

Actually I'm ex-Homeland Security... and your lack of knowledge is appalling.
