Hi there, I am 23 years old and have just recently got engaged to my boyfriend of 3 years. My periods have always been like clock work nearly to the day every month since I was 12. However last month (December) my period was nearly a week early( it arrived on the 7th) and lasted nearly 2 weeks. I usually suffer very bad pains and always know when it will arrive as I get pains up to 3 days before however it just arrived without warning. It was slightly heavy one day then light spotting the next for 2 weeks. It is now the 15th January and my period is 10 days late. I have had slight cramping which I have been told could be a sign of pregnancy, as well as being weepy, food aversions and I have gained 4lbs. I did a home pregnancy test last week and it was negative and I wonder if maybe the pregnancy hormones weren't strong enough. Any advice?

Wait 4 more days, then test with the first urine of the morning.

Last week would have been way to early if you are just 10 days late now.

As noted, wait 4 more days and then test, using first urine of the morning.

Thanks guys, Went to the family planning clinic today and got another test done, this time a slight faint line in the pregnant indicator. The nurse said "for the time being your not" as it wasn't the first urine of the morning and she felt maybe still too early to detect hormones?! So then went to doctors and have had my bloods taken and will hear back on Friday. Is it likely to be a more accurate result with the blood test? I feel in my own self that my body is different. I have been extremely weepy today, slight cramps in my stomach but they disappear after each one and don't return until an hour or two later. Very strange.

Hi, I don't know if you have your questioned answered yet but... let me put my two cents in, I just want to help.

Your body does not have a calendar. It will not always be clockwork, it will always be the product of your environment. If your diet has changed, if your pool of friends or female coworkers has changed, if your sleeping habits changed, or things like that can actually shift the time of your period.

I remember graduating from high school and suddenly my period took a month long break. I was HORRIFIED, I'd JUST become an adult and now I'm pregnant? Well... I wasn't. I suspect that because I no longer was obligated to see the same people every day, my pool of "girl friends" changed (did you know that if you hang around the same woman every day your periods will gradually sync? It's an evolutionary trait so that if one woman has a baby, the other women are geared with tools to help that baby too, crazy huh). My diet changed and all that, so chances are... I don't think you are pregnant. I'd get weepy, cramped, hyper-aware of all my pains, if I thought I were pregnant.
