Should the motor be warm to the touch when the electricity is turned back on BUT the fan is not turned on?

No, that indicated an electrical problem.

Why do you say
when the electricity is turned back on?

I returned the fan. It just got warmer and warmer. I have new one; has same wiring configuration. Ceiling has black, white and red (and ground) wires; fan has black, white and blue (and green ground). I connect white to white; black to black and red to blue? Is that correct so the light will turn on with the wall switch? There is only one switch... Thanks for your help!

That is correct if the switch turns the light on and off. If it does not, connect the black to the blue and the red to the black. The wire from the switch can be either the red or black.

You did well by returning the fan. I had the same experience with one, and it got very hot! I returned it also to Lowe's, and decided to buy a different light fixture. Good luck, and have a great new year.
