Hi there, my 98 civic lx heat meters goes up OCCATIONALY more than the half way point evrytime I drive for apprx 5-10 min.. I have a brand new radiator and new thermostat...... people told me to change the thermostat swicth or the fan relay switch... dont want to change unnecessary part and waste money... wht should I do... also my fan goes on occasionally and sometimes don't... I figure its not the fan because how can my vehicle overheat within 5 min unless some kinna relay or sensor is sending the wrong signal... need help and specific location for the parts to be change and auto spot that should have part... help would be greatly appreciated... thanks evryone:)

With such a small cooling capacity, proper filling technique is important on Civics. I really don't think you have much of a problem. A temperature gauge running slightly over half way if not a real problem. I doubt you have a problem with any relays or switches.

Here's how to properly fill a Honda radiator. When the engine is cold, remove the radiator cap. Pour coolant into the radiator up to the base of the filler neck. Loosen the bleed bolt on top of the engine. Tighten it again when coolant comes out in a steady stream with no bubbles. If you have entraped air, it can affect cooling. Refill the radiator to the base of the filler neck. Put the cap on the radiator, and tighten it only to the first stop. Start the engine and let it run until it warms up (the radiator cooling fan comes on at least twice). Turn off the engine. Check the level in the radiator, add coolant if needed. Install the radiator cap, and tighten it fully. Fill the reservoir to the MAX mark. Use 50/50 mixture of recommended antifreeze and distilled water. Don't add rust inhibitors or anti-rust products.

Thanks for the help... but I already did all what you said... redrained everythng and refiled... I guess my question was not that clear... but my meter goes more than 75% and occasionally 50%... but it definitely is in the warning percentage

I'd focus on the thermostat. Use the proper Honda thermostat and make sure it's installed properly (with the pin up). Make sure the water pump is working properly and that there's no entrapped air.

I've never heard of a thermostat sensor switch. A thermostat open up's cause of the heat of the coolant at a certain temp the thermostat will open up to let the colder coolant go in and closes when it get's colder. Best bet is the thermostat make sure to get the gasget for your hosing to prevent a leak. And get all the air out caused me trouble in the past.
