I have everything installed and when I turn the water on at the tub it comes out of both shower and faucet . I made sure the valve was in the correct position . U are suppose to pull the lever on faucet to turn shower head on what is the problem?

Possible obstruction in the tub spout.
Remove spout and turn water on. Should come out the spout stub out pipe only.
