Recently I've been having draining issues in my tub. At first I thought it was just hair build-up, but after snaking and using clog remover, the problem persisted. I've also been having issues with the drain stopper not moving, so I figured the two were related.

I pulled the overflow plate off and tried pulling the rod up manually, to no avail. I tried some WD-40, but that's not working either. Could it be the hair has grabbed the plunger and is holding on to it? Or is it something else?

The plunger has gotten stuck on lip of the overflow assembly. Push DOWN on the plunger and plunger arm forcefully and then try pulling up on it again. Repeat this procedure a number of times if needed... should pull out eventually in most cases!

After pulling on it a lot, I've managed to pull it out of the assembly. Could lime buildup of caused it to stick like that?

Try mix a 1/2 cup of salt with 1/2 cup of baking soda and dump it into the overflow hole Add a cup of vinegar and allow to soak overnight poor some hot water into the hole try and see if the plunger is loose, if not see if you have access to the back side of the Tub drain and waste overflow tube, disassemble the tube and remove the plunger, see the image below, good luck.

He got the plunger unstuck, John, but the mix you mention could definitely be halpful to loosen some of the gunk in the overflow pipe.

Using some silicon GREASE on the plunger itself before reinstalling it would make a nice finish to the job.

Hello Mark,

Sorry I didn't read post #3 and jumped to the conclusion to use the baking soda, salt and vinegar, thanks for correcting me.

Best Regards,

John
