We have 6 children. And a red heeler, now 1 yr old. We have had since he was 8 weeks. He never stops. He is walked 2 -3 times a day. He comes in and out of the house and is crate trained. He bites the kids toes, ankles hands and anything he can. All

Well Sasluvr, I would say that he is just acting the way a herding breed is suppose to act.

Your boy has a strong instinct to herd things. Since he doesn't have cows to herd, he is going to start herding your children.

This can be worked with, but everyone in the family, including your children, need to be on board with his training and everyone needs to follow directions of the trainer.

I would say to start with some obedience training. Your local AKC club should have some beginner obedience classes. Try and avoid the classes at petsmart and petco, they just aren't good enough for problem dogs. After your obedience classes have been complete, I would suggest to keep moving forward in either more obedience or start with agility.

Your boy his considered a high energy breed. They need more than just a walk two or three times a day.. they need to be ran full out. Dog parks are good, public wildlife areas are good provided he has a good recall (come when called) and so on.

Don't expect this dog to calm down around 3 years of age.. he is going to stay amped up until probably 8 or 9. Its your responsibility to ensure that he is getting the proper training and exercise so you can live with him.
