My Bathroom sink overflow vent is clogged. Water will not drain from the overflow vent when I fill the sink up. I have used baking soda and hot water directly into the overflow vent. I have tried to put a thin metal crochet needle down the vent to try to unblock it. Sounds and feels extremely clogged. When the water is draining into the overflow vent it spills over into the sink and is a bit rusty brown color. Every so often there is a foul fish like odor emitting from the sink. The sink drains without any problems. What can I do to unclog the overflow vent? I live in Brooklyn, New York (Kings County)

Go to HD or Lowe's and get a zip out drain cleaner. It is a flexible plastic strip with teeth. Run it down the overflow, pushing it in and out. You'll be surprised what will come out!

Good suggestion there Brian. I was trying to come up with something that could be used. All I could think of was a piece of electrical wire.

Those things are fantastic. I use them at a house, they want to buy it! I keep a few on hand. Had a gurgling drain, "I don't put hair in the sink" Pulled out 4" of matted hair.
