View Full Version : I like a sixth grader but I am a freshman in high school. Is that weird?

So I have this neighbor that for some reason I really like her. She is in sixth grade she just turned 12 and I really like her. I don't want to like her though because it makes me feel perverted... Besides even if I were to date her I wouldn't want to date her because she's hot or something, I would date her because she has an awesome personality and is just a great person to talk to. I also have the feeling she likes me back she always wants to hang out with me. I refuse to get her cell phone number because knowing me I would say something perverted as a joke and then she would tell her parents and I would be the sex freak on the street. Anyway I really like this girl and wish I could date her. I told myself that if she ever tells me that she likes me that I would tell her to wait until I'm a senior, because I see seniors and freshman dating all over my school.

Wait a few years and it won't be near as bad, but yes it is just not right now, since at 12 she is just too young to be dating, Even if others do

Concentrate on school and give her a few years. She is too young to be dating.

You sound like you know all this already - so good for you.
She may have a crush on you, as many young girls do with older guys, and you are doing the right thing by keeping some distance. If she is ever blunt about it, I see no reason why you can't tell her that you like her but check back with you in 3 years. But even then, seniors leave and rarely if ever stay with high school girlfriends.

I agree with the others. For now you just have to be friends.

Even once she's in high school, you'll have the one year when you're a senior and she's a freshman, and then it gets weird again - for a college boy to be dating a sophomore in high school is not generally considered acceptable. When you are an adult, you could get in some serious legal trouble being with a minor, too.

Keep her as a friend but look to other high school kids to find a girlfriend. If this girl is meant to be with you, your friendship will develop in that direction when you both grow up more and are both adults.

That's a good idea.

Even if you asked her out right now, she'd have to have her parents permission to date you, since she's only a child. So waiting until she's older is a great idea, and really the only option. :)

I'm going to tell her how I feel when she is going to switch from 8th grade to 9th grade over the summer.

She will still be pretty young, 13? Do her parents approve of her dating at that age?

Don't try to groom her as a future girlfriend. Keep it to yourself and give her time and space to grow on her own and enjoy her girl life. There will be plenty of time for that love talk much later.

Then there is the question of her being able to date, and her parents approve her dating YOU, a much older guy. Young feelings change often and neither of you can say how your feelings will go in 3 years or so, so don't get way ahead of yourself.

im going to tell her how i feel when she is going to switch from 8th grade to 9th grade over the summer.

Wow she is on some express schooling right? She is going from the 6th grade to the 9th grade that quickly?

Do you have friends that are your age or older? The maturity level of someone in the 6th grade (or whatever grade since there seems to be a question about that now) is vastly different than someone in high school. And how accepting would your friends be if you told them about this? In other words, if this situation seems wrong to you, to the point that you have to ask about it on here, it probably is wrong.

Concentrate on your studies and making friends that are your age. There is plenty of time to date later on.

SMH! Wait until you're 16, then you can date. Until then, go play with your barbies, ride your bike, have sleepovers at your friends house, and be a kid! Stop trying to grow up so fast, it's not as much fun as you seem to think it is. Enjoy your childhood, you only get one shot at it!
