We just got a really bad wiff of a burnt plastic smell in our room, we opened our bedroom door and can smell it throughout our townhome all the way into the furnace room. The furnace is making a loud sound and the pipe is hotter than usual. Could this be the motor?

Lets see, it's a gas furnace correct? Have you checked your exaust? Your exaust flue could be sttopped up, either way you may want to open some winndows or vacate the house if that's the case. Otherwise shut off the furnace at the circuit breaker and either inspect it yourself or call a handyman. Good thing to beware of is carbon monoxide, its scentless and builds up in the house if the exaust is plugged or obstructed. Double check too, the wiring in your house: I encountered a rat once that electricuted itself by chewing some AC wires behind an outlet in the wall, he stunk to high hell and it may have resembled the smell of burning plastic; singed hair. Do a little investigating before you diagnose anthing first, though. I really hope this helps.
