I was doing some work on my tub and noticed they ran 2 cold and 2 hot supply lines (copper) to the tub,
The 2 cold lines come in vertically and then connect with a 90 degree fitting and then run on up to the mixer.
The hot lines do this too.
Is this normal I've never seen this.
It is not giving me any trouble, just wondering why it is done this way.

Hi Dave
It is NOT normal, for sure, but they may have run extra water lines during a remodel to accommodate a higher volume shower valve.
How many shower heads/body sprays at the tub/shower?
Do you have a separate tub valve and a separate shower valve?
Let us know, OK?

Mark, thanks for the reply. There is only one shower head and one faucet. The faucet and shower head connect and use a diverter in the spout.
The pipes come up through the slab so I assume they are original, house was built in 1971. Could it be feeding another fixture like the bathroom sink or the toilet?

Yeah.. seems reasonable. Seeing that you can't have solder fittings underground they must have come above ground and then run lines underground over to the other fixtures... ;)

I agree with Mark, if you don't have a problem with just leave it as it is, Thanks.

If you're on a slab the lines could be a manifold takeoff. Happy new year, Tom
