I have a John Deere model 345 with the Kawasaki FD611V-CS01. The guy brought it in because he said it was hard to start until he put gas in the breather. We rebuilt the carburator and tried to start it and found we had no spark from either coil. I did some checking and found I had 12V at the coil all of the time. Normally you only get this when thew key is on. There is a little round black thing with some wires coming from it and the red wire goes to the starter where there is 12 v all the time. Another wire goes to both coils and there is continuity between the two so that is why I have 12V at the coils. Is this the way it is supposed to be or is this black thing faulty? It has something to do with the ignition but I don't know what it is or what's inside it because it is epoxyed. Any help would be appreciated.
