My dad's truck is a chevy silverado 1500 4.3L v6. He starts it up and it will go for 2 or 3 miles but then it dies and won't go any further. If you wait for a couple seconds you can turn the key and hear the fuel pump and then it starts right back up, but when you drive it for a couple more miles it does the same thing. He changed the fuel filter and the fuel pump seems to be working fine, I'm not sure what to do, and I told my dad I would get some help. Can you help me? Thank You!

It's likely a failing Ignition Control Module (ICM).

It could be many things. Ignition Control Module , Ignition key switch, coil ( wires could be loose )

Although I agree with the ICM answers, I have also experienced this with a bad fuel pump. Once the pump got warm, it would fail. Cool off, it would run again.

You need to check things before you just start replacing as a guess. Do you have no spark when it happens? Do you have no fuel? My brother in law just spent a fortune on his Jeep because he didn't want to diagnose the problem. Just kept replacing parts.

There is a way to check these things before replacing them.
