My 9 week old 2 1/2 lb shih poo puppy got his 2nd round of shots this morning. He started throwing up a lot. They gave him a shot and kept him all afternoon before letting us take him home. They told us he would feelbad for a couple days. He seemed to be feeling better then drank some water and ate a little. He has since thrown up 3 more times and is wheezing. I gave him a 1/2 tsp water in a dropper and he threw up within 5 minutes. Should I call the emergency after hours number or will he be OK until they open in about 4 hrs?

I would hope by now that you have either gone to the emergency center or your puppy is feeling much better.

Sometimes, especially the small breed dogs, they will react to the vaccines given. Next time you give your shots, if you give them yourself, speak with your vet on the dose of benedryl you should give. Give two days before the vaccine is given and 3 days after. If you go to the vet for your vaccines, then let them know about the reaction and they should be able to help reduce the reaction risk.

There is also a chance that your puppy just caught a stomach bug and isn't related to the vaccine at all.

Anytime a puppy or a dog is vomiting, you should never force feed water. Dehydration is very dangerous, especially in smaller dogs. Excessive vomiting really should be taken to a vet for a check up. And force feeding water will only make an already upset tummy more upset and vomit more. So it actually does a reverse effect even though we as people think it's helping.
