The GE repairman said I need an electrician. The breaker shows 240. Yet the outlet shows 110 for the red, but only 56 for the black. I wonder what that means.
While the breaker and outlet are new. The wires are very old. The run is only
About 5 feet to the breaker box. I wonder if he will fish the new wires, or install new conduit? Will cost, but has to be done.

I know you told me so.

Hello,

You have not given us enough information. For example, what is the votage across both hot terminals in the receptacle?

Electrician finally found the problem with the dryer. The outlet reading was 110 red and 56 black. He found the problem in 1900 box(archaic term) bad spice job from before 1979.
The wires were held together with an alligator clip. Now the hot terminals are 110 each.
Cost me $129.00.

"Bad splice job!" You are one lucky pastor to still have a church to worship in! Talk about an early Christmas Gift!

It's about time, unless you are on a fiscal year budget, to redo you budget plans. You seriously need to consider finding the money to have all of the wiring and outlets checked for unsafe conditions. This is not something a DYI person can do. The NEC requires that a licensed electrician do the work in gathering facilities such as meeting halls, churches or movies.

Please have this done as soon as possible.
