I received a summons on my door. It was taped there it is from a lawyer. My boyfriend was in a 12 car pile up last year during a storm on 10/30/11. This one lady is suing everyone that was in the car accident. It has 14 people as defendants including, myself. I wasn't there the truck in registered to me so she is suing me. Anyway, the summons says I have 20 days from the date of the letter, date 12/03/12. I just rcvd this on the door today, 12/17/12. First, question is where to I go the? Also, is it from the date I rcvd it or the date on the summons? Additionally, what I don't understand is why isn't she suing my insurance company? I have insurance.

She has to file the lawsuit against you and then you forward it to your insurance company.
Call your insurance company first thing in the morning. Also, if you have a scanner, scan the summons and complaint and email it to your insurance company. If you don't have a scanner, find a way to make a copy and fax it to them.
The time is 20 days from the date it was served upon you, but don't hesitate. Get this to your insurance company immediately.

Agree, your insurance company merely has a contract with you, the other person does not sue them, they sue you and normally the driver of the vechile also. But it is common to sue everyone.
