My ex-wife has filed for a modification of child support in Washington state where she currently resides with her new husband and our son. The original child support order was filed in Utah where I continue to reside since our divorce in 2003. I would like to file a motion to dismiss due to lack of jurisdiction and want to know if the court has a template I can use or do I need to have a lawyer draw up these documents? On the Washington State site it stated that if I felt they did not have jurisdiction over the case I needed to write a letter to the judge or submit forms stating why I felt this way. Will a judge/court accept a personally written letter for something like this or does it need to be a legal document/form? I guess that's two questions but I would appreciate any advice you can give.
