I live in Florida and recently refinanced my car for a better loan. My loan was from a credit union in Florida and I refinanced through a credit union in California. I got a call from the credit union in California stating that my previous loan holder would not transfer title because there was a $80 charge from the dmv to do so. My credit union who now has the loan refinanced is now saying that they are not going to pay it and it is now my responsibility to go down to the dmv and transfer the title to them at my expense. My question is as the lean holder now who is the credit union, shouldn't they be the ones who have to transfer the title and shouldn't it be at there expense. As the finance company shouldn't the title be in there name as well?

Normally this would all be spelled out in the refi. The fee would usually be included in the amount refinanced. But its possible the CA CU was not aware of the fee. Therefore, it is your responsibility to pay the fee.

It's your expense. You are the one switching lenders. And no, they are not listed on the owner line, but as lienholder.

If that were the case then they'd be responsible for your insurance as well. That's not the case though.

It should have been included in the refi, but obviously California was not aware of the fee.

You need to do it, if not, it is possible they can call the loan into default. You made a error in not being sure it was covered, live with it and move on
