You can't put anything on it; just keep that area clean with soap and water, as in her bathtub.

Five year old girls are known to, and don't get me wrong, investigate certain parts of their bodies and it is really quite normal. It could be a fingernail scratch.

Don't make a big deal about it and never ask how she got it; she doesn't know.

Just thank god it didn't happen in nursery school as that sometimes happens.

Just keep it clean while it heals, and be more careful to keep her nails trimmed. She probably has absolutely no idea when or how it happened. Everyone ends up with those mystery scratches and bruises, with no idea how they got there. Maybe she scratched a little too hard at an itch, or snagged herself while exploring. Either way, making nail care a weekly, or even bi-weekly, ritual will probably keep it from happening again.

Baby powder. It's made of mostly talcum powder which will absorb moisture. Honestly an old trick my momma did with me as a kid when it came to me not wiping after potty (I was a kid). It's also a trick I use when my dogs accidentally break their nail or yank it off while caught or something. Baby powder, and make sure she has basic hygiene knowledge of the area, her underwear fits her so the elastics don't chafe or hurt her while she does kid things, and that she doesn't continue to irritate it.

This can happen with adults as well as children. Especially if the area gets raw or sensitive. Just keep it clean, and put some antibiotic ointment on it :)
