I was caught allegedly shoplifting @ kohls. This was over 3 weeks ago. The police did not arrest me, but I went to station for "questioning",as I was threatened w/ a warrant if I didn't go. I did admit guilt. (they police had cd of my actions from cameras). Im wondering how long it'll take to receive a summons, how long the police have to actually issue summons (any statute of limitations)? I know I admitted guilt to this alleged crime but I did talk w/ the police about contacting kohls/asking if there's anyway we could settle it out of court-is that ever possible? (I know this is very unlikely but figured I'd ask) I've been waiting by the mailbox nervous everyday. Cop said summons would be less than 2 weeks. Obviously Im not assuming I'm in the clear. I just need another opinion in all this. Is it a wise idea to contact the police station of that city & ask. Or better to leave it alone, as there's a sliver of a chance they could forget about all this & me contacting them could cause them to remember? (I know, unlikely). The value of items taken was around $60-$65 & were returned to police to return to store. Is there any chance that store could drop charges? Or is it now both store & police possibly pressing charges? Any advice on this would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
