I have lit my whirlpool water heater several times over the last month.but it goes out.but tonight it took me a little longer to lite,finally got it to lite & I held reset button down for a min as instructions indicate,but when I tried to switch from pilot to on the flame went out,waited 10 minutes tried again held button down for 2 minutes with yet again it went out... will some one please help me...

It sounds like your thermocouple is defective. If your water heater has an open combustion chamber it is an easy fix for someone that is handy around water heaters. You can purchase a universal thermocouple (see image) and either you, a friend/family member, or a plumber can quickly replace the thermcouple easily!

If this is a newer water heater with a closed combustion chamber then you will need to get the proper thermocouple assembly kit with the door gasket... available at Lowe's for whirlpool water heaters, I believe.
