View Full Version : Should I Discontinue The Pill?

I've been on the Lutera birth control pill since the end of August. I've had a pretty bad experience with it, but it is the first birth control I've ever taken so, perhaps my body's just been having a hard time adjusting.
The side-effects I've had are painful acne, weight gain due to cravings, and constant spotting. Constant. It's frustrating beyond belief. I'm either lightly bleeding or having brown spotting (light discharge). And my mood is very irritable and sensitive.
If I stopped taking it until I can get a doctor's appointment, would the spotting stop? Would I have a really long period? Will I just go back to normal cycles without the annoying spotting?

Have you looked up the reported side effects of this pill? I have taken two different types of birth control pills over the past 7 years (Yaz and generic). While I had a little bit of spotting the very first month, I actually lost some weight with the pill (because it's a diuretic) and had no other side effects besides. I don't think this is the right birth control for you and you should definitely talk to your doctor about starting something else.
If you stop the pill right now, I think it's very likely you will begin your period soon after. However, since you've been spotting, I think it's also likely that you may have a lighter than normal period, rather than a heavier or longer period. That prediction is based solely on some of my experience with spotting and no other info/knowledge besides.

I agree, I'm going to see about switching birth control pills rather than ending it altogether. I hear about the pros and cons of the pills, they affect us all differently, I'm sure there's a pill my body will accept easier, that will balance me out.
