I filed for disability 3 years ago and won 2 years later. I went through the initial process myself but then when I was granted a hearing I asked who I thought was a good friend who was an attorney to attend the hearing with me, he agreed. I gathered all of my 33 years of medical documents myself and he asked for them to load in the ss database. These were my original documents and some of them have been destroyed by the medical offices. I asked him to return the documents which I need for more medical personnel to review on my conditions. He has informed me he has lost my files and original documents and he also took $4,0000.00 dollars of my award for his pay and he did not file for my child's money but retrieved money for that as well. The only time he spent on my case was approx. 3 hours entering documents and one hour at the hearing. Also, he asked for $500.00 for expenses that I thought would be his pay until I found out he petitioned for money from SSA. What should I do?

Did you have a written fee agreement with him? What does it say?
