I was hired in Texas by a Texas based company. We all went to Indiana to install a machine. I was fired in Indiana on Tuesday and don't get my paycheck until Friday. Its below zero. How do I get home? Does he pay for it or do I. What do I do?

If the firm transported you to IN, then they should pay to return you. But you might have to sue for reimbursement. A lot may depend on why you fired.

The boss kept changing the time to start work. The regular time was 330pm to leave to the job. If the boss was late he would change it to 430 and sometimes 530. If I was 5 minutes late getting down to the car, at the hotel, he would yell the whole way to the job about my tardiness. Yesterday I told him if he wanted to yell at someone to let me out of the truck. I was going to get another ride to the job. He then called me and told me I was fired. After that he gave me a note that said I had refused to come to work and cost the company money. I did not but apparently he was trying to cover his own actions. Now I am stuck in Indiana and will not be paid until Friday. I don't have any money to leave or pay for the hotel until Friday. What do I do?

I would contact the home office and tell them what happened. I think you have a potential law suit if they leave you stranded like that. Even if the reasons for termination were valid.

Are you an employee or an independent contractor?

I am an employee and as for contacting the home office, the company is Al which is a small company and the owner is the one that we are talking about. He is the one that fired me. He is here in Indiana. This is a privately owned business. The owner, subcontracted to other companies. I'm not sure which of these companies to talk to about this.

None, If Al is subcontracting to other companies, they have no part in this. I would strongly suggest contacting a labor lawyer in your home state and ask what they advise.

My gut reaction is you have a lawsuit against A for stranding you and you will be able to recover your costs, but you will need to lay out money in the meantime.

Looks like the note was accurate. You chose to get out of the truck and, apparently didn't arrive by other means as you promised.

Consider a mechanic's lien.

I didn't have the option to arrive by other means because before I was able to obtain a ride he called me and told me I was fired. So there was no reason to go to the job if I was fired. The note was delivered after the verbal termination.

Also, he docked my pay eight hours without notice. So now my check is a day short. I was told by the office assistant after payroll was submitted and never told why I was docked.

I got out of the truck and told him I would get a ride. He yelled out to me that I was fired and also called me on my cell phone that I was fired immediately after he left. I did not arrive because he fired me as he drove away and within minutes on the phone. It was three hours later that he gave me the written notice. Was I supposed to arrive at a job site after being fired? I was docked one day pay on my paycheck that will direct deposit on this Friday. I was not told this before payroll was done but after it was done and submitted to the payroll company.

A is a small company and the owner of Company A transported me to Indiana and is the one that fired me. He is here in Indiana. This is a privately owned business. Company A was hired BY company B and Compnay B was hired BY Company C I'm not sure which of these companies to talk to about this.

*** company names edited out to keep this poor person from getting sued perhaps.

The docked pay is from last week and not this week.

Again, you can't talk to either of the companies that hired him you have no relationship with them. You have to take legal action against him.

And I will add that posting the company's name on a public website with ONE version of the events is not terribly wise... in many ways.

No one told me this was public, I thought this was private because I have a user name and a password. I thought I was getting help from lawyers and this was all confidential. So its great to know this after I was asked questions and I answered them and then found out that it is public.

Did you not even look at the web site, did you not read the information when you signed up.

All of this is public, and searchable by all search engines including Google.

Thus the reason for a user name ( not own name)

When you log on, you see the 1000's of questions and answers of all the other people ?

I edited out the names of the companies

No, I did not see the thousands of posts because I immediately asked a question. I did a search for 'stranded in another state after being fired.' and there were many links for employment lawyers and I thought that this was one of them. I clicked the link and the only thing that showed up was a white box and button that said ask and a link to register. I thought once I had registered that these were private.
Someone sent my actual posts before the names of the companies were taken off to the company I was fired from. I know this because the owner of the company sent me the email that the person sent to them. The actual company names were taken off in the same session so this person copied and pasted the actual post. The names were taken off within minutes of me posting them so he was sent inaccurate information.
As I search for answers on slander I find that if my statements would have to cost the company money, or if they would have been untrue and that they would have to prove they are untrue. I feel so much better. None of my statements are untrue, I have witnesses that will testify that they are true and I have a signed letter from the owner of the company that affirms everything that I said. So, in conclusion, I am happy that there are helpful people out there and there is a place to find answers but I am very disappointed that there are also people out there that would tell a company that an employee that they have left stranded and is trying to get help on how to handle the situation the heads up so that the fired employee could now have a harder time getting home from all the way across the country. Wow, that was just mean. By the way, my wife was with me until the day he fired me and was witness to everything except that day. She didn't have to witness that day since he put it all in writing.

The site is world wide, and has over a million members. Every member of this site can see and post on your thread (question), and anyone with a computer can see your question if they search for it, or something similar.

You really should have read the terms and conditions when you were signing up as a member. We don't hide the fact that this site is public. We make everyone aware of that when they join, but it's up to you to read what you're joining. We can only make that info available, we can't force you to read it before you post.

Good luck.

I am way past that issue so I am not sure why you are still telling me about terms and conditions. I am on to the slander issue now and very happy with what I found and very unhappy that 'someone' sent the post from before it was edited and the companies names removed to the owner of the company. The company names were removed on Nov 29th at around 1am. The person sent the allegedly copied and pasted post to the owner at around 8am. Hmmm, I wonder how he got the post with all the company names. I am over this subject and this place. I will not be returning to respond anymore tonight and maybe to never respond again since some person decided that a person left stranded across the country needed to be hurt more than they already were. This site is great but the person who did what they did is not. Again, the owner forwarded me the email that was sent to him with the email address of the person that sent it to him. So I know who did it and what time they did it and that they gave him false info because the post was edited hours before 8am. They did say they thought about sending it to him 'long and hard' but probably should've made sure that they were sending the info that was still in the post.

So then why don't you send that to one of the mods so they can have a look at it? If it even really happened. I can't picture anyone here doing that... at least not a long time member.

At any rate, if you had simply read before agreeing, you wouldn't have had to worry about someone sending it off to your company.

People here tried to help you and now you turned it around that this site sucks because you didn't bother to read. Nice.

Excuse me? I never said the site sucks!! You are now saying things I never said. HOW DARE YOU! I said this site was great. MAYBE YOU SHOULD READ THINGS BEFORE YOU RESPOND!! I can't BELIEVE YOU WOULD LIE LIKE THAT!! I am not going to repeat what I typed here. You can go back and re-read everything. I should not have to repeat myself. ARE YOU KIDDING ME!!

How do you know that someone sent info to the company and which company? Your direct employer or one of the others?

If it was sent, it is probable that one of the companies mentioned subscribes to a reputation protection service that monitors the web for mention of the company name. I seriously doubt if any member (especially one of the regulars) would have done this.

Anyway, I'm sorry you did not realize that this is a public site. You found us by doing a web search, so I'm not sure why you would think that this would be private.

In any case, you got good advice, and, if the events you have listed were accurate, then I doubt if you have to worry about slander. I wish you good luck in resolving this.

You are right you didn't say that. In odinn's defense, reading your posts do give the impression that you are upset at this site. But his post was out of line.

how many times are you and others going to point out that i didnt realize this site was public. Are you hell bent on making sure everyone knows that i messed up? Are you hell bent on making sure that you make me feel as stupid as possible. All of you can stop pointing it out now. I get it. Stop helping because you are not helping by showing the public how stupid i am. Thanks for all your help but you can stop now. How rude can a group of people be?????

Let me say this. In the TOS (Terms of Service) those of us that are on here are forbidden from offline contact. All communications are suppose to be within the threads as far as dealing with the questions. But we do have a PM service also where you can send a message to another on AMHD. If you feel someone here violated a rule by crossing the line. Then please pm one of the mods (expert user) with the header information and we will be happy to look into it and pass it up the chain as needed.

We do try to give the best answers here as we can and strive to do so daily.
It is not any part of policy to email anyone with information unless there is eminent threat.

I'm closing this thread. I don't believe anyone was rude to you, we have only tried to help you. No one is saying you are stupid. But I see there is no point in saying anything further.
