OK. My aunt has two degus. (I have owned degus for 6 years now though I have never owned a breeding pair) she thought they were bolth males... to her amazement. After 9 months of owning them they had babies a few days ago. I checked up on them online and discovered that yes you can handle them after their eyes are completely open. (which they are) as long as the parents feel you are safe. What I need to know is , is there a certain food you should feed the mother to help her at all after giving birth... any help would be muchly apprechated

Aside from the normal diet restrictions of sugar, there are no special nursing recommendations in the research I have conducted. Follow the best recommendations, and ensure water is fresh daily, the base feed you are already using is available, and offer Degu-safe vegetables daily.
